This morning Andrew floored me. For a moment. Here's how it goes...
He was finishing his breakfast as I did dishes. We usually start out eating breakfast together, but since he has to put each piece of cereal into his yogurt individually, I tend to finish first. Seriously, one by one he puts the cereal into his yogurt. And he almost always gets some yogurt on his fingertips, so then he needs to lick his finger off, dry it on something, and go for the next piece of cereal. Repeat. Oh, and add in a running commentary on what he is doing and when. The talking never stops until the eating begins. It actually doesn't annoy me...it passes the slow morning time pretty well, and I get the dishes done. :)
So I'm doing dishes as Andrew spoons his yogurt into his mouth. We are chatting about what we're going to do today.
Andrew says "Mommy mommy mommy"
I repeat back "Muh-muh-muh mommy".
Then he says, "Mommy starts with 'M'".
Wow! That's right. "What does Pepere start with, Andrew? Puh-puh-Pepere" (that's what we call my dad)
"Pepere starts with 'P'"
Unbelievable. My kid is a genius! "What about Daddy? What does Duh-duh-Daddy start with?"
"B"
"Duh-duh-Daddy. Try again"
"Buh-buh-'B'"
"No, Daddy starts with D like the word 'dog' Duh-duh-dog, duh-duh-daddy"
"Okay. Duh-duh-dog. Shadow starts with 'D'"
Oops. I think I may have confused the kid. And what exactly do you tell a 2 year old what the word "Shadow" starts with? Doesn't sound like 's'. Should I start a dissertation on letter blends while he munches on his Clifford cereal? Probably not. So guess what I did? What any self-respecting mother would do...started dancing with the dirty dishes chanting, "Duh-duh-daddy is a duh-duh-dog. Duh-duh-daddy is a duh-duh-dog. Daddy dog, daddy dog" etc. etc. Hilarity ensued, Andrew giggled so much he couldn't even finish his breakfast. It's so easy to amuse a 2 year old sometimes!

Lep Frog fridge phonics! I think, and I can check when I get home the S says "ess" and "sh"
Sing along - every letter makes a sound, S says "ess".
Anyway, YAY Andrew for being so smart!
