8 weeks down. 32 to go. Dear God, that makes me want to cry.
We had a lovely weekend in Cinci/Dayton. Jeff had a fencing tournament at our old stomping grounds, UD. Not that it looks like the UD I went to. But it is still UD. My Ghetto house is still standing, so that's something. I got to visit with my cousin who I haven't seen in about 4 1/2 years (my twin!) and my parents and Jeff basically took care of everything so I could relax. Lovely.
Here are my observations of the past few days:
1) My cousin Nicole must be really cool, because I enjoyed all my time with her despite feeling as tired as a marathon runner on mile 25 and as naucious as...well a pregnant woman.
2) Since I'm feeling so nausious, I should really figure out how to spell that word. (spell check has informed me it is n-a-u-s-e-o-u-s...that's too hard, so I think I'll keep spelling it wrong)
3) The water in my parents' toilet bowl is too high. There was much splash-back with the vomiting. Ewww. (thank heavens my mother is a cleaning champion. I really wouldn't want my own toilet water splashing back on me).
4) I swear I will have my tubes tied after this pregnancy.
5) Okay, I swear I will have JEFF's tubes tied after this pregnancy (why should I have to go through this misery AND surgery?)
6) My mom should be a gourmet cook to the stars. Especially pregnant stars. Somehow I didn't get sick when she was cooking our fabulous meal Saturday night. I thought Jeff was going to cry when he heard the oven start up. It's feels like FOREVER since there's been cooking at our house. Can Mommy move in with us for a few weeks?
7) My in-laws should be automatic winners of the parents-of-the-year award. They sat on bleachers for 10 hours watching and waiting for their son to fence. Enough said.
I think that is it. Jeff took the day off today so we didn't have to rush back from the fencing tournament. Today was a bad day for me. What will I do without him tomorrow???

The REAL reason I haven't been posting much...

...is I couldn't talk about this yet.

...this terrible picture is of our first ultrasound yesterday! We saw little baby's heartbeat and jellybean figure. It makes it real all of a sudden.
I promise I'll post more now that I can moan about morning sickness on here! But I'm too tired to write now...maybe later!

10 years
In honor of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd write a little about my Valentine. I'm not usually this sappy, so feel free to not read ;)
It was about 10 years ago that Jeff and I went out as a couple for the first time. I don't remember the actual date, because it wasn't a significant night until later. Hindsight, and all that. I asked him to a swing dance because I wanted to learn to swing dance. Valentine's had just passed, and all I got were some weird things from scary boys. I was FED UP with college men, and I'd only been in college for 5 months! So I asked my friend, Jeff, who I thought would be a good sport and go with me. Needless to say, I had a GREAT time. When I got back, a few girls on my dorm floor groaned and told me they'd lost me. I was in COMPLETE denial.
So it began. I think I fell in love pretty quickly, for me. But I was convinced it wouldn't last...because I was terrible with relationships. I was notoriously picky. So it was just a matter of time before I found something wrong with him that drove me crazy and made me want to leave. Just a matter of time.
I know exactly when I knew I was in love. We'd been dating for about a year and I was assigned a strange project for a psych class I was taking. I had to write my autobiography, from birth to death. So I typed it up in Jeff's dorm room (I didn't have a computer) while Jeff sat out in their living room. It was easy to write my life up to the present...the future posed a bit of a problem. I didn't feel ready to marry Jeff...we were going to break up for sure. So I wrote in that Jeff left me our senior year for a cute freshman. I yelled "Bastard, how could you do this to me???" into the living room. I wrote that I got married a few years later to someone else. But as I kept writing, I was incredibly sad that my future didn't have Jeff in it. So I did what any 19 year old would do...I killed off my first husband, and was reuinited with Jeff in my 30s. (interestingly, he was still a bachelor) We got married and had babies, of course. And that's how I knew. I couldn't picture my future as happy without Jeff in it...so I must be in love.
Since we began dating, we've been terribly boring. Jeff always corrects me and says "Stable". We've never broken up, or even gotten close to doing it. We rarely even fight...I think I can count on one hand the number of times he's really gotten me angry. I attribute this entirely to him. He would be successful in any relationship with any woman. He is just so thoughtful and selfless and genuinely kind. Part of the reason I'm fat is because he is constantly telling me how beautiful I look to him. He's a good listener and puts up with all kinds of crap. He's silly and makes me laugh every day...except on days he drives me crazy. He is so smart, but he never makes me feel dumb. I guess I'm just lucky I was the first girl to ask him out.
Today, he surprised me with a Valentine's gift. This never would have happened 10 years ago. The best part was a little love note stuck in the card. Oh, and the card waiting for me in Andrew's crib this morning...he risked waking the coughing angel to surprise me with a card.
I'm just so glad for these last 10 years. I certainly didn't deserve him any more than anyone else...I just got lucky that he fell in love with me too. I love that we still enjoy each other's company more than anyone else's. I love that we don't get bored of each other. I love how I fit perfectly in his arms. I love how Andrew fits in them now too. I love our 10 years of inside jokes. He makes me feel safe, and important, and content, and complete.
I can't wish for more than what I've already had in life. I love my family, my sisters, heck, I can't even complain about my in-laws like the rest of the world does. All I ask is for another several decades with this man.

MIA
Here I am! I just couldn't make myself sit down and write about my life the last couple of days. Not that anything bad has been happening. I just haven't been feeling all that clever as of late. (Oh, now you're really excited to read this entry!)
Let's see, a little update on the last couple of days...
1) My in-laws came to visit this weekend. Andrew was so excited they were coming "together" (a word he just discovered...interpret, said a million times in one day). In fact, when Jeff got home from work, Andrew ran to the door, and when he saw it was just Dad, he said "No no no no...want Grandma and Grandpa". Awwwww. Poor Jeff.
2) We informed the grandparents as they walked in the door that Jeff and I were going out the following night. Nice of us to give advanced notice, eh? We went out Saturday night with another couple and Grandma and Grandpa fed Andrew ice cream for dinner. Everyone was happy. Our date night went well; it was with a mom from my Mom's Club and her husband. A "Daddy Play-Date" some may call it. I'm happy to report that the daddies played well together and we are looking forward to evenings out together in the future!
3) It is cold. Freakin' Cold!!! I've even turned up the thermostat a degree. Yes, it's that cold. No, we don't have 26 inches of snow. I might turn it up 2 degrees if that were the case. When I bragged a bit ago about my gas bill going down, I kind of forgot to factor in that we'd had the warmest January in years. D'oh!
4) Andrew is sick. What a surprise! He has been keeping me up every other night with his coughing. Not every night. Every other night. Last night was a good night. I look forward to tonight being filled with coughing. Weird. Annoying. Poor Andrew.
5) Jeff is sick. What a surprise! Andrew has been coughing all over everything and everyone, so why wouldn't we get sick. I am not sick yet...but I can hear the ticking timebomb in my ear when it's really quiet, so I'm sure it's coming.
Dang...I really can't think of anything clever to write. I think I'll call it quits and try again later.

The Napless Wonder
I am going to go crazy. Retire. Something to get me away from my crabby kid.
I took him to the doctor on Monday. He woke up way too early for his later bedtime. He was crabby all morning. He woke from a 20 minute nap (yes, 20 minutes) screaming. Surely there must be something wrong with this child?!?! Nope. All systems good. Fine, if there is nothing wrong with the child, then can you prescribe something for ME???
Yesterday, he slept well at night, but took a 40 minute nap.
Today, 30 minutes.
It is not as if he doesn't need it. I thought for sure today would be a long nap. Let me count the tantrums of the morning (each of the following was cause for a crying, screaming fit):
1) Didn't want breakfast bar, cereal, French toast sticks, toast, yogurt for breakfast.
2) Desperately wanted yogurt
3) Wanted Cheerios, but not the good for you Cheerios, Mommy, (2 minutes into tantrum I realized he wanted to Froot Loops we use for projects)
4) Wanted to stand on the step stool at the library and throw books onto the floor (Mean Mommy didn't let him)
5) Wanted to rush out of library before Mommy could check out books (Mean Mommy made him sit on the floor by her instead!)
6) Wanted Mommy to sit in the back of the car with him (who is going to drive, Andrew? Answered with wails)
7) 30 minutes of crying inexplicably once we got home from the library.
8) Mommy won't let Andrew shred envelopes ready to mail.
9) Wants to SWING at the park, not slide
10) Wants the other swing
11) No not swing, SLIDE
12) No slide, go home and have Chicken nuggets
I think that is all. I may have blacked out as a psychological protection however, so I can't be sure. So after lunch, I was QUITE ready to put the boy down, and he sure acted tired.
30 minutes. Well, he played in bed for 15, then it was quiet for 30, then he was screaming and sobbing. Mean Mommy went upstairs, rubbed his back and left the room. It is still undecided whether he will sleep or not.
Grrrrrr...I just can't wait to see what the afternoon holds!

Working women
We have a weekend to ourselves! We weren't expecting any out-of-town visitors and we weren't driving out of town. Amazing!
So what did we do? We invited people over. :) Last night we invited one of Jeff's co-workers and his wife over for dinner and today we invited my parents down to watch the Super Bowl on Jeff's big screen. We're getting really used to partying!
Dinner last night was a big success. I was worried we wouldn't have anything to talk to Aaron and Gretchen about. We all graduated from UD, but none of us were really friends in college...more like acquaintances. I haven't seen Gretchen since 1999...and couldn't really remember what she looked like. But Jeff and Aaron work together, and Gretchen is about 18 weeks pregnant, so we ended up with lots of conversation. And Andrew was an ANGEL. Man, that kid makes us look good. He was so patient with all of our talking. At the dinner table he actually interrupted by saying "Excuse you Excuse you" (of course meaning, excuse me). He asked to get down from the table by saying "Be excuse?" (we are teaching him to say May I be excused). He played by himself, and loved it when we all played a rousing game of soccer with him. It was kind of like we didn't have a kid for much of the evening. I can see why people have their kids close together. Andrew is so easy now, why would we want to start over?
Gretchen is the opposite of me. She LOVES teaching. In fact, her baby is due in July, so she technically can wait to start her maternity leave when the school year starts in August. I was thinking, BONUS, she gets like 3 months with her kid instead of 6 weeks. But she is planning on going back to work exactly 6 weeks after the baby is born...she doesn't want to miss any of the school year. Huh? I hope her kid is a good sleeper. I can't imagine getting 3 hours of sleep and then having to go teach 4th grade! She's also in the throes of finding childcare. She needs one with really flexible hours and that will take a baby that's just 6 weeks old.
I am proud of these women who manage to do it all (like my sister). I think it is setting a wonderful example for little girls and women everywhere. And I am SOOOOOOOO glad I don't have to do it. I cannot imagine juggling a career and a family...I would seriously go crazy only getting to see Andrew for a couple of hours a day. So pat yourselves on the back, ladies...you are doing the hardest thing in the world...3 full time jobs at once (work, house, and kids). And I'll keep reminding myself how lucky I am to be at home. (even on those days I don't get a bathroom break, lunch break, shower, or adult interaction and conversation)

V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!!!
I may have alluded to the fact that I am keeping our house rather cold. It costs a lot of monney to keep 3000sq ft warm. So after our gas and electric bill last month, we've been making an effort to cut back. It's really cruel that the gas and electric are combined on one bill. It looks really really bad.
But I'm not an extremist. We leave lights on in the rooms we're playing in. We turn the thermostat up when we have visitors (or we do now that my mom acted like she was in the arctic when visiting us). Sure Jeff complains. Sure we wear layers of clothes. Sure my hands are so cold Andrew protests having his diaper changed.
But I now can claim victory! We just got our bill, and it went down $100!!!
How's that for improvement?

Stir Crazy
I am pathetic! I CANNOT stay home the entire day without going somewhere. And today I did it...but not contentedly.
Andrew is sick. What a surprise. My little healthy baby has turned into Mr. Drippy-nose. I swear he's had a runny nose since Thanksgiving. We tried him on Claritin last week thinking maybe it was allergies. Nope. Just one cold running into the next.
Last night he was coughing so bad he was wheezing. I hate it when I have that kind of cough. He was oozing rubber cement out of his nose at a constant rate. He has mild diarrhea...and won't tell me when his pants are full, so he has diaper rash. He fell and hit his head on the window today while we were playing "Kickermen" (aka soccer) so he has a HUGE knot on his head. This kid is a MESS.
So I decided that we would just stay at home today. Thursday is my empty day, so I had nothing to cancel, etc. We could just stay at home.
Oh dear God...help me. I know some mothers are really fun and have "pajama day" where they all stay in their pajamas. I can't do it. I need my shower in the morning like some people need coffee. I have to at least go for a walk around the block. I go STIR CRAZY.
Today was not helped by Andrew feeling generally crummy. And when you are 2, what do you do? You whine all day. You cling to your mommy, but get mad when she kisses you (can you get close to your 2 year old and NOT kiss him?). Jeff was amazed when he got home and heard the whining. So annoying. But I feel sorry for him, because I know he just doesn't feel good.
Jeff came home early today (he'd gone to work at 5 am) so I took an hour break upstairs. Let me clue you in on what an hour break means. I'm upstairs for 15 minutes, and Jeff has to change his diaper. It's a blowout, so Jeff calls for backup. Now Andrew knows Mommy isn't just "going to the bathroom", so he's clued in that Mommy is hiding upstairs. Jeff convinces him to go back downstairs with him and leave Mommy behind. Grandma calls, and the second Jeff is occupied, Andrew rushes upstairs. The cute thing is that he makes up an excuse. He hauls this brown teddy bear up the steps with him and hands it to me, "Here's you bear, Mommy". Uh, thanks. He cuddles in the chair with me for 10 minutes. Daddy comes up to find him and tries to wrestle with him on the bed. Andrew breaks down. He needs his mommy.
So that was my hour break. Jeff tried. Andrew won.
We couldn't get this kid into bed fast enough. The whining was making everyone crabby, and my sympathy was growing thin. Andrew definitely has a man's mentality when it comes to being sick. (all you women know what I mean by this).
So here I am. Bored. Stir crazy. Sick of my kid being sick after one day. I can just hear the board of the Mother-of-the-Year award shredding my application.

Cutest dog in the world

Here's my other baby! She gets cold in our house (who doesn't?) and is always on the lookout for a discarded blanket to curl up in (if there is no lap available, of course). This picture is of her improvising. Andrew had left his puppets on the couch, and I found Shadow all curled up in them. Isn't it adorable?
