Determined

I am determined to bring this blog to life again. I am no longer exhausted to the point of drooling and I no longer have the worries of throwing up on the keyboard. My only excuse for not blogging is I'm out of the habit. So I'm going to try some blogging therapy. I'm going to write an entry every day this week. Just watch me. I'll do it. And if anyone is still out there checking this pathetic thing, you can once again be bored to tears by my life :)

So Thursday was a fun day. (My English teacher would cringe at this topic sentence). I had my 16 week preggo appointment and my mom came down from Cinci to watch Andrew while I went. I had to get blood work done after my appointment, and I figured they probably wouldn't appreciate me chasing Andrew whilst poking my arm with a sharp needle. Also, my doctor has been up to 3 hours late for my appointments...with no toys for tots. So my mom was nice enough to come spend a day with Andrew. Oh, the sacrifices of grandmothers.

The appointment went well. Baby's heartbeat was nice and strong and much easier to find than last time (baby gets bigger=easier to find). My next appointment is May 19th...and it starts off with that big wonderful ultrasound. I can't believe that is only a month away. Can we say "DENIAL" boys and girls? September is going to come with me waddling like an African elephant, and I'll still be like, "What? I have to take care of two of these leeches?". I jest. Sort of. My mom was kind enough to offer to watch Andrew again for that appointment. Yea, kind. Selfless. More like, wants to be the first to find out if it is a boy or a girl. Hmmmm. That's okay, I'll take the free babysitting.

Oh, and I mentioned my back pain to the doctor while I was there. Back pain is such a bad way of describing this. It's not in my back. It feels like the round part of my femur is being detached from my hip. Or my pelvis is being wrenched apart with a crow bar right in the middle of my butt. Some people tell me it is sciatica nerve pain. Except it doesn't shoot down my leg like most people. Some people have told me it is my ligament in there that pops out of place. I don't really care, except it flares up during pregnancy and I just want it to stop!!! (have you noticed I SUCK at being pregnant?). Anyway, my male doctor's advice... "Bengay or heating pads when needed". Oh, thanks. Now, do you have a large needle with which to apply the Bengay into my bones? Or perhaps you will make an incision in my buttocks so I can get to the pain with my heating pad. Men!

I went to get my blood drawn after the appointment. This is always such an ordeal for me. It is so hard for medical professionals to find my veins, I honestly don't know how my hands don't just fall off. Before having Andrew, and inexperienced nurse spent 5 minutes finding a vein, poked in with a regular sized needle (although I'd warned him), and was very upset when the needle twisted violently (taking some of my arm with it), and shot out of my arm at him. Nice.

So I convinced my doctor to not make me do the initial bloodwork until I could eat and drink enough to flood my veins with blood...hence the bloodwork at 16 weeks. I warned the tech to use a butterfly needle because I had tricky veins. She smiled condescendingly at me and began to feel for a vein. Couldn't find one in the right arm. Couldn't find one in the right hand. Switch to left arm. Found one...a small one. She's so nervous to lose it that she asks me to hand her the vials so she can keep one finger on the elusive vein the entire time. Like an angel, she inserts the needle without any pain and gets the blood she needs. For the first time since high school, I didn't bruise at all. Her name is Regina. We may all worship her. I will ask for her again when I go for my glucose test.

Gee...isn't this exciting? I promise that tomorrow I will shower you with Andrew stories. We're going to the zoo tomorrow, so that should give me lots of material.
